Invisalign has taken the world of modern dentistry by storm! These awesome aligners are able to correct crooked teeth in a convenient and discreet manner, which is why millions of patients have turned towards Invisalign as a means for achieving the smile of their dreams. However, many patients also want to reach the finish line as quickly as possible during treatment—but are there any safe ways of doing this? Here are three tips from your dentist for speeding up your Invisalign treatment without compromising your results.
Tip #1. Follow the 22-Hour Rule
The cardinal rule of Invisalign is that your trays must be worn for 22 hours every day in order for them to correct your teeth. The only time they should be taken out is whenever you need to eat, or if you need to clean your trays (although this can often be done simultaneously). This might seem relatively simple, but it’s often easier said than done. Many patients forget to put their trays back in directly after eating a meal—and those minutes and hours can quickly add up! However, adhering to the 22-hour rule will ensure that your trays are able to shift your teeth in a timely manner.
Tip #2. Bring Your Tray Case Everywhere
Although your aligners should theoretically be inside of your mouth for most of the time, there are still opportunities for them to become lost or damaged whenever you take them out. That said, it’s a good idea to bring your Invisalign storage case with you everywhere! If your trays aren’t being worn or being cleaned, they should be properly stored inside of their case. This will protect them from any external forces that might damage or separate them from you! Lost or damaged aligners will inevitably take time to replace, which means your overall treatment process is prolonged.
Tip #3. Keep Up with Your Progress Checks
Throughout your treatment, you’ll have to visit your orthodontist for brief progress checks. But this is simply to make sure your trays are doing their job and your teeth are shifting accordingly! These appointments are crucial and help keep your treatment right on track, and if any minor adjustments need to be made, this is when your orthodontist will make them. Skipping these visits will likely slow down your progress—plus they usually only take around an hour or less to complete!
When it comes to Invisalign, doing the little things correctly and taking great care of your aligners is the secret to a speedy treatment process. If you’re curious about what you can do to ensure that your Invisalign journey is successful, don’t hesitate to speak with your dentist or orthodontist for assistance.
